AN ATTEMPT TO BRING AWARENESS ON CANCER

Important to note that....
1. Cancers in developing countries triggered by infections are more prevalent - liver, stomach and cervix
2. Prostate, breast and colon cancers are common in richer countries than in poor countries.
3. Cancers that are most often cured are Breast, Cervix, Prostate, Colon and Skin, if they are diagnosed early.
4. Lung Cancer kills more people than any other cancer
5. More men than women get Cancer of the lung, stomach, throat and bladder

It is estimated that there are approximately about 2.5 million cases of Cancer in India at any given point of time and that there are about 7,00,000 new cancer patients diagnosed every year in India. Over 70% of cases are detected late and report for treatment in very advanced stages. The pain and misery cancer inflicts on the patient is catastrophic apart from the economic impact of this disease -one study estimated that it costs about Rs. 3,50,000 to treat one tobacco-related cancer. There are about 24.6 million people living with cancer in the world
SIMPLE CHANGES IN LIFESTYLES AND REGULAR SCREENING CAN BRING DOWN THESE CANCER DEATHS DRASTICALLY
Our objective is to raise awareness on Cancer especially among the lay public with a hope that the level of cancer awareness rises the health behavior towards prevention and or early detection of common cancers. Consequently not only the pain and misery that the cancer inflicts on the patient can be minimized/ avoided but also the economic load in the country will hopefully begin to decline.
One of the leading cancer centers in India is the Tata Memorial Center
