Hepatoprotective effect of Aegle marmelos and Eclipta alba:
Aegle marmelos and Eclipta alba have enormous hepatoprotective value. Among the two plants Aegle marmelos has slightly high activity as compare to Eclipta alba. These herbal drugs have equivalent therapeutic value with the standards drug Silymarin. Moreover, it is very important to study the specific phytochemical compounds responsible for this hepatoprotective effect.
Antibacterial activity of Aegle marmelos leaves fruits and peels against S. aureusm, P. aeruginosa and E. coli:
In the present study, the antibacterial activity was found to be best in fruits of the aegle marmelos against bacterial pathogens compare to all peels and leaves.
Anti-inflammatory activity of Aegle
Both methanolic and aqueous extract of Aegle marmelos seeds showed good anti-inflammatory activity against the acute inflammation (carrageenan induced rat paw edema) and chronic inflammation (cotton pellet induced granuloma) in animal models, at both the doses (i.e. 200 mg/kg b.w. and 400 mg/kg b.w.), although the better anti-inflammatory activity of methanol extract than the aqueous extract mightbe due to the presence of higher concentration of flavonoid contents.
